Director:
Mani Haghighi (b. 1969) comes from a family involved in cinema. His 2003 debut ABADAN, a film about youth, friendship and romance, was too strong for the Irani government and had to premiere abroad. It drew attention at festivals, and with his second feature MEN AT WORK, Haghighi has established himself as a popular director at festivals. |

A hilarious absurd comedy about four middle-aged Iranian buddies trying to push a big rock off a cliff. The well off urban men stop to take a leak on their way to the mountains. They spot a big rock that looks easy to topple, but it's easier said than done. Other rich Teheran-men join as if competing, and their wifes drop by to add to the chaos. Although MEN AT WORK can be interpreted as a political allegory, the film is easy-going and should appeal equally to fans of Abbas Kiarostami and Kevin Smith.
